BACKGROUND ON CASE:
- The management of High School Jan Viljoen in conjunction with the School Governing Body (SGB) contacted Mr. Mike Bolhuis from Specialised Security Services (SSS) and appointed him a few days after the incident at the school on 11 February 2022, to conduct an impartial investigation into occurrences that led to the riots on the day.
- The purpose of the investigation is to identify guilty and not guilty parties involved in the riots on that day as well as events that transpired in the days after the initial incident.
- Due to the seriousness, sensitivity, and extent of the happenings and what transpired in the days afterward, the initial investigation was conducted secretively.
- Various parents and learners as well as other role players were contacted.
- Interviews were held and statements and reports were received.
- There are still statements and reports outstanding from some involved parties.
- Information in all statements and reports received were analyzed, evaluated, and verified.
- This serves to give an overall view of occurrences that transpired and led to the initial riots and further accusations and actions on 11 and 14 February 2022.
- The investigation is currently in a sensitive phase and information obtained through statements and reports received cannot be made public.
